Hi, I’m Tonya Schanbacher!

My name is Tonya Schanbacher and I teach 5th grade homeroom, P.E., Seminar, and am co-athletic director with Ms. Getka. I am originally from Garnavillo, Iowa, and attended UNI where I received my teaching degree. I moved to the Benton Community in 2005, where I taught 5th grade in Norway for 4 years before staying home to raise my kids. I enjoyed being home for 8 years. Once my youngest started Kindergarten, I decided to go back to teaching. At this time, my children were attending Central Lutheran, so I decided to join the staff when an opportunity arose. I taught 4th grade for 2 years, and then moved up to 5th grade. I am currently taking my Colloquy to officially become a called teacher.

I am married to Tim Schanbacher who sells Pioneer Seed and farms.  We have 3 children, Cole, Claire, and Carlee. We keep busy watching the kids play Central sports, and showing cattle. I attend St. John in Newhall and enjoy attending Bible Class.

My favorite Bible verse is from Jeremiah 29:11, “For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans for welfare[a] and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope.”
